The Cool Air Rebate Program (CAR) will pay up to 80% of air conditioning repairs for eligible Californians. Leaking air conditioning systems can cause poor air quality, which affects everyone in our communities by increasing the rate of asthma and other health issues. Financial assistance is available to fix leaking systems which will help make our air cleaner and commutes cooler.
The new program covers repairs for leaking air conditioning systems with R-134a refrigerant in eligible vehicles. The repair process begins with free AC testing and diagnosis to determine if the specific repairs are covered by the program. If your car is eligible, the Cool Air Rebate Program will pay 80% of the repair costs, and you will only be responsible for the remaining 20%, paid directly to the repair shop.
Funding for the Cool Air Rebate Program comes from unclaimed deposits on cans of R134a sold in California in coordination with the Car Care Council and the California Air Resources Board. The Car Care Council is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating motorists about the importance of regular vehicle care, maintenance and repair through its “Be Car Care Aware” consumer education campaign.
