The California Cool Air Rebate Program provides financial assistance to eligible Californians to repair leaking air conditioning systems with R-134a refrigerant in cars and light duty trucks. Fix your AC, enjoy a cool ride, and improve the air quality in your community!
To be eligible for the program, you must live in California and own a car manufactured between 1993 and 2019, or have an older vehicle that has been retrofitted with R-134a refrigerant. The program income eligibility requirements are based on 200% of the 2024 federal income poverty level. A reference chart is available here: income requirement.

I'm so grateful for the new Cool Air Rebate Program; my family is too. My daily trip to work involves two school drop-offs, all without a working AC. It gets so hot and uncomfortable for all of us, and now, we are cool as can be. It was easy to apply, and I found a repair shop in my neighborhood that could repair the leak and get me on my way. Thank you Cool Air Rebate Program!”
